Service Learning- How Can Your Students Make a Positive Contribution?

When I was a student, I groaned whenever the phrase “community service” was mentioned. I found it to be bothersome and didn’t understand the purpose of doing it. However, as an adult, I now see how important community service is for our communities. On top of this, it is extremely beneficial for our students.

In the latest issue of the Wow! Ed newsletter from The Center of Educational Improvement, I wrote about the positives of service learning, which is when students perform community service or other tasks through their school and help their local area. Then, the students reflect on their experiences, and relate it back to what they are currently learning and studying in school.
